Freeze On HIV Spending In African Countries

United States President Barack Obama has implemented a freeze on all HIV/AIDS  funds going to African nations. Obama is calling for a stronger push by African governments to educate and push prevention rather than feeding the issue of just administering free antiretrovirals. The decision has brought concern from the African community that strides made against combating the virus since 2003 will be undone.

Nigeria Deems US Air Passenger Screening Unfair

Since the failed Christmas Day airline bombing, the United States has stiffened its stance on passenger screenings. Fourteen nations, 5 of them African, including Nigeria face mandatory body searches and physical luggage checks of all passengers due to enter the US beginning today.

Piracy in Somalia – Part III

Here we are again – a new day.  We rescued our captain, but did nothing to help Somalia with their problem – you know, no fish because European trawlers illegally fished off their coast.  Don’t forget the illegal dumping of hazardous waste along their shore.  But we have our captain back, even though Somali Pirates have just seized four more boats belonging to Egypt, Lebanon, and Greece.  I suppose we’re finding it hard to believe these pirates are killing no one and there are legitimate reasons to their madness.
