The Darfur – Sudan Conflict Series: Current State

180px-Save_Darfur_sign_from_New_York_The current state of the Darfur conflict seems to be at a stand-still.  Everything has been done without anyone getting their hands dirty.  We are obviously at a state where a major super power must do something and take that first step to end the violence and death in the Darfur region.

The Darfur – Sudan Conflict Series: A History

Darfur_mapPrior to colonialism, Darfur was an independent state.  It wasn’t until 1916 when Britain annexed Darfur formally.   Unfortunately, the region did not prosper even during the period of colonialism ’til Sudan won independence in 1956.  See, Darfur is located in the far western part of the country – a particularly dry and a non-resourceful area.  The Nile River runs down into Sudan, but is situated to the eastern part of the country which is where Khartoum – Sudan’s capital – and other large cities developed.  A large majority of the country’s finances went to developing these communities and cities around the Nile which was  and is home to many Arabs.
